Hiatus hernia surgery cost: why it is priced differently

People searching for hernia surgery costs often mean a hiatus hernia, and the numbers on a general hernia price list do not apply to it.
It is a different operation
A groin hernia repair pushes tissue back through the abdominal wall and usually reinforces the gap with mesh. Surgery for a hiatus hernia works inside the abdomen at the junction of the oesophagus and stomach, and where an operation is done for the reflux that a hiatus hernia can cause, it is commonly a laparoscopic fundoplication. That is why hiatus repair sits in a different part of a hospital's published price list, if it appears at all.
